Souper Bowl

Avon Lake won the title last year, so let’s do our part to ensure Avon Lake retains the trophy!

Flexible Seating

We are getting used to new procedures and rules of room 1. The flexible seating is working well and students have been trying out different options each day. I am hearing positive feedback from the students and I can tell their busy bodies are benefiting from the seats. Here is a copy of our flexible seating rules to ensure everyone is safe and the equipment is being used appropriately:

  • Scholastic Book Orders came home. This is a great way to build your child's library! Every order earns our class points, which I use to get books for our class library at school! Our class code is GZDXL. The link is always on the left side of our classroom blog. Please order by September 8th so I can send the order and receive your books quickly!
  • In class we often make, read, and color mini paper books. It is a good idea to collect these books and store them in a special spot or Ziplock bag to re-read them again. Repetition in reading is important and helps to grow fluent readers! Keep in mind, our focus is reading so sometimes the books come home with incomplete coloring. This is OK and the students can finish coloring at home if they wish.
  • RAZ-Kids passwords will be coming home next week. I will put them on the back of your child's take home folder. Please be on the lookout for pink "RAZ-KIDS Homework Assignments." The children are assigned 2 book assignments to read in the "level up" spaceship on RAZ. If your child is looking for extra reading to earn stars, they can read additional books in the "Reading Room" spaceship. More information will come home next week about RAZ-Kids!
  • No School Monday- Labor Day
  • A Sign Up Genius link for center helpers and guest readers will come out mid-September if you would like to volunteer in our classroom. For now, we are learning the routines of first grade and look forward to seeing helpers in a few weeks.

First Week Success!

Our first week of school has been great! I am learning so much about each student and love seeing the excitement as they enter our room each day. We are getting used to the new procedures and rules of room 1 and have met many new friends.

This class website (blog) will be the "weekly newsletters" to keep you up to date on what's going on in our classroom! I will post events, news, and what we are learning each week. Please utilize the important dates section on the left column of this page for important Upcoming Dates at Redwood. At the top, you will find links to fun websites we are using in school and websites to use at home.

A few reminders:
  • Return summer reading calendar to school if your child participated in the program
  • Become a member of Redwood's PTA to stay informed and volunteer throughout the year. This is the link to our PTA online membership to sign up. You can pay online or send in an envelope with member fees and your name written on the front. All memberships must be filled out online, no matter how you wish to pay.
  • Please keep in mind, if you wish for your child to be included in the student directory (emails and phone numbers) you must be a member of PTA and include your child's info when signing up for PTA.
  • Passwords for RAZ KIDS, Compass Learning, and Wonders Reading will be put in the back pocket of their home-to-school folders next week.
  • Remember, our class is a peanut and tree nut free zone. Please do not pack "classroom snacks" that contain nuts.
Learning:
  • This week, we learned the high frequency words: I, like, do, to, you, be, can, a, has, go
  • In math, we practiced number writing and counting.
  • We are learning about friendships and kindness in social studies.
